This month, The Virtual Costumer is publishing an image of mine for the cover. Taken on location in the Los Angeles Fashion District, the image suits well for this issue which features an article on L.A. Fashion Confidential, A pro’s tips and tricks for visiting the L.A. Fashion District.
As I left New Mexico on the return flight this Monday, I could not get Captain Joe’s feat out of my mind.
On August 16, 1960, Joseph Kittinger jumped his last Excelsior jump, doing so from an air-thin height of 102,800 feet (31,334 meters). From that nearly 20 miles altitude, his tumble toward terra firma took some 4 minutes and 36 seconds. Exceeding the speed of sound during the fall, Kittinger used a small stabilizing chute before a larger, main parachute opened in the denser atmosphere. He safely touched down in barren New Mexico desert, 13 minutes 45 seconds after he vaulted into the void.
The jump set records that still stand today, among them, the highest parachute jump, the longest freefall, and the fastest speed ever attained by a human through the atmosphere. Somewhat in contention is Kittinger’s use of the small parachute for stabilization during his record-setting fall.

This weekend I was honored to stay at the home of artist Donald Anderson. Outside his back door, The Henge, sculpted by Herbert J. Goldman sits basking in a Roswell Full Moon. Built in 1962, this environmental sculpture is over 2000 square feet of concrete building and grass planted sculptured earth. Dimensions are 159′ x 150′ x50′
The Roswell Artist-In Residence Program is a truly wonderful and amazing program for artists. Observing privacy requests, I will not show at this time of the interior art of the Henge and other images on the property.
A highlight of the weekend was having Donald and Sally drive us to the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art and then a personal visit to artist Rigoberto Gonzalez Alonso who is currently an artist-in residence.
Well, this week I will be working for Target and cranking out some wonderful fashion laydown photos, however, this coming Saturday, January 30th, I will be landing at this airport for a fabulous photography assignment in the nearby region.

Each day, one hint will be given. Saturday morning, the final answer will be posted on the day I am flying. Good luck!

I am so proud of my older brother, Gregory Sadowski. As Partner of Studio SA, Greg is responsible for the design through documentation and construction phase of the firm’s work. Greg’s experience over the past 25 years has included design, design development, project management and construction administration.
January is usually reserved in celebration of his birthday, however, this month, there is a little more to celebrate.
Embracing photography with his younger brother, Greg and I have shot side by side, the incredible Tour de France, roamed the streets of Milan, Paris and flew over the icebergs of Greenland at sunrise trying to take those amazing aerial photographs that never seem to turn out as nice as you think! All at the same time, we respected each other for our professions. Greg the architect, Tom the photographer.
Many, many years ago, when I needed extra cash as a photo assistant in Hollywood, Greg hired me to help with his construction crew as they needed help digging the foundation for his newly designed home in the Mt. Washington area above Highland Park in Los Angeles.
Now the tables have leveled out and I am honored to help him navigate the world of photography submissions, questions, insights and knowlege of the industry and to give him much needed praise for being accepted to IRISF64. This an online photography gallery presenting limited edition photography prints and digital images for sale, by new and established creative photographers.
Greg and his wife Stacey, have traveled the world visiting amazing locations. Last year, they were in Mongolia. The image below is one of many that this architect took and will now be submitting a more extensive portfolio to IRISF64.
